The Initiator, the Artist, his Advocate, and the Urbanist (IAAU) is an international collaborative project funded by the Balkans Arts and Culture Fund (BAC), powered by the European Cultural Foundation (EFC). Focused on the Western Balkans, the project aims to conceptualise the cultural phenomena of distinct neighbourhoods in Belgrade, Tirana and Skopje, exposing the benefits of local self-organising micro-networks to urban development.

To strengthen and enhance the potential of such phenomena, IAAU engages a full range of actors such as young urban planning professionals from around the globe, local artist collectives and institutional representatives through a series of workshops and the development of an online bank for ideas and resources. Furthermore, IAAU aims to translate the workshop results into an exhibit on city-making that will be showcased at relevant local and international cultural events, bringing the knowledge and beauty of these neighbourhoods to wider audiences.
